Whales

Whales are mammals, just like us! There are two main types of whales: baleen whales and toothed whales. Baleen whales, like the blue whales and humpback whales, have ‘baleen’ plates in their mouths to help them eat tiny sea creatures. Toothed whales, such as the orcas and belugas, have teeth to catch bigger food. Whales need to breathe air, even though they live in the ocean. The blue whale is the largest animal ever, even bigger than the largest dinosaur. They can grow up to 90 feet long and weigh as much as 330,000 pounds! Whales have a clever way of sleeping: they rest one half of their brain at a time so they can remember to breathe and not sink. Whales are intelligent and majestic sea creatures!
